Florida braces itself for twin disasters, with many of those who would normally keep people safe otherwise occupied...
According to the AP:

"MIAMI (AP) - Florida braced for an unprecedented double dose of hurricanes expected Thursday, ordering Florida Keys visitors to get out of Hurricane Charley's path and preparing for possible flooding as Tropical Storm Bonnie approached the already soaked Panhandle."

Twin disasters approach Florida.  We hope those people are going to be safe.  Unfortunately, their fire, police and rescue ranks are short-staffed - many of them are in the military reserves.  The Bush administration also cut federal funding for each of these vital services.

Anyone want to add more to this?  This is exactly the sort of "rainiy day" people who give our first responders short shrift never expect to come.  This could wind up being a significant example of our government putting our citizens at risk in unexpected ways...
